The olfactory pyramid of perfumes

A perfume is not just a set of notes, but it is a well-composed structure of a succession of raw materials combined according to the knowledge and creative flair of the perfumer, a combination that must necessarily take into account the degree of volatility and persistence of the materials and respect the theory of the three olfactory planes, known by all as the olfactory pyramid.

The olfactory pyramid is an organization of raw materials by virtue of their degree of evaporation and their longevity, it is made up of three levels that represent the temporal development of the fragrance.

The top notes, usually fresh and light and with a weak persistence, have the purpose of fascinating and attracting, they can last up to 2 hours to leave the scene to the heart notes.

The heart notes, more powerful and persistent, determine the development and essence of the perfume, give the fragrance character and intensity, have an average persistence and a duration that varies from 1 to 4 hours before giving way to the notes basically.

The base notes are the most persistent, they evaporate slowly, they evolve according to the ph of the skin, and can last for days, they give persistence to the structure of the fragrance, they represent the personality of the perfume, they are the notes that remain on the skin after many hours, which settle making the fragrance more personal.
